Lesson in writing your first book - Wolverhampton Blog!

May 15, 2018

At the Wolverhampton Christian Business Breakfast event our speaker was Charlene Brown, and she shared lessons learnt after writing her first book. This generated lots of discussion and more importantly attendees committing to take action!

Here are a few of the lessons ...

  1. Determine a space to write ... schedule and factor time in to write, be it a coffee shop, park, or at home. It should be a place where there are no interruptions! Protect it and stay disciplined

  2. Get the words on a page ... just write! Don't self critique and edit as you go along. Edit at the end

  3. Find someone to be accountable to ..... someone who will ask the question have you written this week... will you be writing ?

  4. Think about marketing ... devise a strategy

  5. When you are writing .... who do you have in mind as the future reader? Who do you want them to be?

  6. See your book as your business card .... opportunity for business leverage i.e. Writing retreats / groups / speaking engagements / podcasts / YouTube

  7. Have vision for what you want to have your book to do for you

  8. Use an editor / proof reading .... will see the errors

  9. Connect with others writings ... iron sharpens iron! Meet ups / writing groups plus accountability

  10. Ask for support ....find someone you can bounce ideas of

Lastly remember you are unique, so your writing will be unique, be bold and take risks!
