Lessons from an army cadet - Oxford Blog

At a recent Training Kings Oxford Dinner Event we heard from Training Kings MD Francesca McDowall who spoke on “The importance of Discipline and Order.”  These two key elements are vital for success. Francesca stated that discipline and order creates routine and this in turn creates structure.  Having structure in life is very important.  When our life is structured we accomplish far more.

Francesca spoke about how wearing a uniform, for example, creates a sense of belonging.  When individuals feel they belong they experience the feeling of well- being.  It is imperative therefore that we create an atmosphere where others can have a sense of belonging.

Francesca recounted some of her experiences as a young army cadet and the discipline that was necessary in the life of the cadets.  She spoke emphatically about having to rise early to ensure that uniforms were clean, pressed and shoes were polished ready for the inspection.  The regular uniform inspection was an important part of their daily routine. It fostered the drive for excellence.

It was concluded that discipline and order will often lead to success.  Success is a by-product of excellence. We should therefore strive for excellence in all of our endeavours in life:  in our businesses, our home life; our ministries. This drive for excellence will be evident in all that we do. It will impact all of our dealings with others and lead to continued growth and this is achievable when we lead a highly disciplined life.

It was an encouraging and motivational presentation, and attendees have given feedback on the impact and steps they have taken to change as a result of the talk. If you’d like to be inspired join us at the next Training Kings, Christian Business Network event.
