Food and Culture in Business

November 14, 2016

At our Coventry Business breakfast this month hosted by Brian Armstrong, we had two fantastic speakers inspire us, one about food and the other culture, we wanted to share some of the main points.

Gavin Kibble, founder of Coventry foodbank delivered an inspiring presentation on some of the work that Coventry food bank do to support with reducing food poverty in the City. They have fed over 81,000 people in the last 6 years in addition to clothing 1600 people. The foodbank has also partnered with the Citizens Advice Bureau to provide welfare and debt advice. The work is continuing and growing and Gavin has answered the call to find out what he was purposed to fulfil in this season.

Gavin shared the following scripture and asked us to consider the question “why are you here?”

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven” – Matthew 5v16

Dave Bowden is the lead pastor of Mosaic Church Coventry and the strategic lead for the development of Christian Ethos at Grace academy. He taught on the importance and impact of culture, as seen through our organisational values. Its values that drive behaviour, the difference between what people say and do is “value”. We were encouraged to reflect on the top 3 values in our organisations, and then consider do other people know what they are and how they are experienced. Dave taught to create values around who you are as a person, and shared a quote by Peter Drucker “Culture eats strategy for breakfast, lunch and dinner”. In other words a great strategy without a great culture will not have as greater impact!

We would love to see you at the next Coventry breakfast, check out our events section for all the details
